2002 – 2004 Campaign for Antioch College, $65 million goal ($35 million raised during my presidency).
2004 Mellon Foundation grant to Antioch College curriculum renewal project.
2003 Mellon Foundation grant to support Antioch College infrastructure.
1995 – 1998 National Endowment for the Humanities Challenge Grant to Lehigh University for international and intercultural education; raised required matching money from individual and corporate donors.
1995 – 1998 Philip Berman to Lehigh University permanent art and outdoor sculptures including Henry Moore bronze; solicited and installed.
1995 – 1998 Hewlett Foundation grant to Lehigh University to add research experiences to introductory courses across the curriculum, and increase undergraduate research participation.
1989 – 1992 FIPSE (U.S. Department of Education) grant to Rollins College to support curriculum innovation in science and to develop the Science Community Year program, a learning community to support first-year science students; doubled retention of science majors.
1987 – 1989 Jessie Ball duPont Religious, Charitable & Educational Fund grant to establish the Florida Interacademic Consortium, a school-college partnership for Florida.
1985 – 1987 National Endowment for the Humanities grant to Kenyon College to expand School-College Program to rural and inner-city public high schools.

FIPSE (U.S. Department of Education) grant to Kenyon College; Teachers College, Columbia University; and Bank Street College of Education, New York to develop 5-STEP, a new consortial model and 5-year double degree program for combining liberal arts and teacher education.

National Science Foundation, Intergovernmental Personnel Act grant to fund one-year leave from Denison University as National Science Foundation Program Manager.
